Fond Hearts

Today is the last day of the month, my monthly post day, I was wondering what to write about.

I am in the train at the starting station, reached almost an hour before  departure. For once, I outsmarted the traffic , travelled by metro.
With the introduction of a  new metro , which meets the green line, and at the changeover station it gets overcrowded, tightly packed, you can stand without holding on to the rings on top, no place to fall.
Still it’s worth it, you can make it in half or one third the time in comparison to the road.

The man and the lady sitting in the opposite berth, senior citizens, looked happy and healthy.
” Where to ?”
“Ernakulam”, I said, his voice and the pleasant expression attracted me to almost sit on his lap.

After the ice breaker ( though in his presence ice will melt), we discussed about families and our backgrounds. I made him do most of the talking, it was music.

I happened to mention about a young couple on their honeymoon trip to munnar I met in one of my earlier travel, the girl’s name was the same as the  lady’s name

Then he said ” we are returning from our honeymoon”.

I said ” with our children away, many seniors are having a second honey moon”.

” ours is different” he said.
” how”
” We are returning from our honeymoon and we are getting married next week “

I just did not know what to make out of it.
I just pointed towards them and gestured, you both ?

He smiled and said ” yes”.
He unfolded their story.
To cut short a long story, his two sons are abroad, he a widow, the lady  lost her husband and son.
They were travelling alone in their life journey, they met and here they go.

A great story with lots of titbits.

Before going to sleep, he smiled , “never mind what’s the age, heart is young”.

” You are an inspiration”, I said.

They will be getting off at Palghat at 3 in the morning, not sure I
will be awake, the irresistible couple.

What a gem of a time listening to them and gave me a blog post to publish before 12 midnight, my deadline.

  1. Sweet Story 🙂 I know, and loved, Munnar thanks to YOU planning our Kerala trip. Long ago, but never forgotten, as you have not been forgotten my dear friend.

  2. really a heart touching …

True, that one Should be always young at heart to Feel, to relish the moments of life.

as ever, ur real stories are too good..

  3. Life is a journey & we come across many interesting personalities & hear many beatiful stories. This is called experience.

  4. Hello Menon, very interested story with great value at our age. Train journeys in Indian Railways is the best to make new acquaintances, although it’s for a short duration. This is why I always prefer to, but not always convenient, to travel by bus and/or train in India.

I am so tempted to narrate a story of my travel from Bhubaneswar to Cuttack on a line bus (yes, that’s what they’re called). I will save that story for our Srilanka reunion trip. Please do remind me.

Good that you got the material for your monthly blog on the very last day. 😁😉
