Time Pass

Time Pass

Last day of the month, last day of the year and here goes 2024. Welcome 2025 and wish you and your dear ones a great year ahead, specially your health. For us oldies, a new year lengthens our past and shortens our future, applicable to the 60+. Keep the crap, that age is just a number, with you.

The year 2025 have some special characteristics compared to all other years, 452 = 2025. The next sum of squares year will come, I think after 92 years from now. Then there is another, sum of all cubes from 1 to 9 adds up to 2025, 13+23+33+43+53+63+73+83+93 = 2025. And there are some more, you are spared..

Looking back, this year experienced a few losses, passing away of important people in their well lived 90s, for me nothing in life is a loss except death, which is ir-recoverable.

The highlight of this month was my motherinlaws 100th birthday celebration, attended by her children, grand children great grand children and a close circle of friends of her children. It’s the first time I am near a 100 year old (in pretty good health) relative, my parents and aunts, recently an uncle passed away at 90+. A special mention of two friends, Dr. Bhat and Sri Radhakrishnan, their mothers crossed 100 a few years ago and are still going strong.

A small gathering of 1 G to 4 G

A quick mention about a narrow escape. Last week my daughter Sandhya was driving from Aleppy to Kochi, with me and her children as passengers. A guy on a two wheeler in front of us took a left turn and disappeared when we realised there was no road in that direction. She stopped the car and we rushed out and saw the guy had fallen into a road which was may be more than 15 feet below where we were. Lot of people gathered from the neighbouring area and picked him up. He said that he had slept off. Looks like he got away with some minor bruises. Moment we heard he was fine, an experience of my friend ran through my mind and we decided to get away from there as quickly as possible. In such situations if one guy weaves out a story that we have knocked him down, it may take the rest of my life to prove our innocence. There were hardly any other vehicle near us on that village road.

Generally in such situations the crowd takes over and the main characters becomes helpless even if they do not have any complaints.

All the good memories of the year 2024 would have been wiped out by some horrific possibilities

Our escape was greater than the scooterist’s

In a Kapil Sharma comedy show, one guy was given a chance to ask a question to the celebrities on stage. Before he could ask, Kapil asked him after hearing his name “ Bro, what do you do”. He said “ Time Pass”. That answer brought the house down.

Though it sounded humorous and after a hearty laugh, those words set me thinking. How true, what we have in life is Time.  One thing that cannot be touched is Time. Never mind what we do, we do not do, one thing we all do is time pass. Every individual is gifted with time, 24 hours a day, however  the quota of number of  days are different for each of us.

No time to meet you, is a standard excuse we have, very busy. Time is the only thing you have, what you mean is ‘You are not in my priority list”.

One of my favourite :

An extract from a poem titled “ Live your dash” by Linda Ellis-

The line etched into a headstone
Between the dates of birth and death
Represents each step we take on eart
… and every single breath
To many, it is but a hyphen…
Marking time between the years
But in that little dash, is a lifetime
Of laughter, love and tears..

Time steals our days and hours
Before we recognise the theft
And we live each day not knowing
how much of our dash is left.

The big lesson I learnt in life, is that nothing happens  before its time. Everybody has his own time zone. All the misery in life is because of the comparison. Your friend got a job as soon as he graduated, whereas it took 2 years for you to get a job you desired. How miserable you felt. The girl next door gets married at the age of 23 and you, you aren’t, next month you will be 30. The guy who got a job soon after his graduation is today without a job due to some unfortunate reason and you are working in a senior position in a company. The girl who got married at the age of 23 is a widow and your guy is just round the corner, plus you could complete  your post graduation and is economically independent.

My life took off after the age of 46, yes 46, with titles, roles, responsibilities, positions ,money, did not have time to think of time, before that it was  time pass.

Relax folks, all that has to come to you will come to you in its own time.

This attitude of mine has moved me down in the list of my friends, who are unhappy with what they do not have, when I am happy with what I have

Once again wishing you all a wonderful year, if you find someone without a smile give one of yours.
