New year rear view mirror

Last day of the year 2023, a new year at the door step. Tomorrow is another day, a change in the gregarian calendar. In Bharath we have a new year on a different day and month. It does not matter, we need a reason for a celebration and how ? Drinks and dance, for many, what other way for others ?

An year passes by, we get a feeling it’s been too fast, we are not yet out of last year’s hangover. Time’s speed is one hour per hour, how did travel so fast ? Don’t bother, a year has gone by as usual with tragedies of war, natural calamity and many good for others. It’s been the same all the years. The changes are happening in climate and technology, for bad and good.

Let us look ahead, past is past, a place to visit not to dwell. Just carry the lessons, leave the emotions behind. The rear view mirror is smaller than the wind screen of an automobile, you need to look ahead more than in the mirror of the past.

My friend was asking, any new year resolution ?.I told him, I have made only one resolution in my life 15 years ago, to quit smoking and that also not on first of January. If I had done it as a new year resolution, I would have been smoking today. Quiters are losers they say, for me it’s an accomplishment.

How do you celebrate, when you don’t drink or smoke ? Well, I have not left drinking, still a social drinker. I had a great celebration for the whole of December, not just the new year eve.

I had people at home with their family, my daughters, sister, my cousins lived under one roof for a month. Had a noisy blissful time, a rare celebration of togetherness. And a special occasion of 99th birthday of my mother in law, the attendees age range was between 2 months old baby to 99 year old great grand mother (99th birthday means 100 years completed on the earth)

When they all left, we had my childhood friend Munni and her husband Prof Khandekar from the US filling up the last week of the year, completing the picture for my rear view mirror of 2023.
