The secret power of thoughts

Change your thoughts to change your life. My life did change directions, never thought, how. May be it was the thoughts. Here is Usha Sathyanarayanan,  who has experienced the power of thoughts and  successfully dealt with Cancer. I am reproducing her talk at the Mecon gathering on 2nd February, 2020, with a bow.

The secret

I will tell you a story about two women who were neighbours, Meetha and Sushama. Meetha was a very sophisticated, party loving person, where as Sushama was an introvert, just happy looking after the family. They were good friends inspite of their different backgrounds and interests. The common link was their sons who were classmates. Later Sushama changed her residence and they stopped seeing each other.

After a couple of years   Sushama came to know that Meetha was ill. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sad part was that Meetha could never accept it, couldn’t bear to see herself in the mirror, having had to lose  her hair due to the treatment. She was totally distraught, not ready to take any positive advice from any one. The sad end came and she passed away.

Much later Sushama too  had to face   the same fate. Her husband was there as a pillar of strength and her children and sisters too gave her lot of mental support. She took the news in a matter of fact manner,  even joked by calling herself a  ‘ motte’. She went through  the treatment for eight months taking in all the problems in the right spirit.  She came to the end of the ordeal and is now in the pink of health.

Now I want to surprise you – This is not just a story – It is a true life story. Sushama is myself and my friend was Meetha. I went through all these problems six years back. In addition to that, I was lucky to have come across a book called ” The Secret ” by Rhonda Byrne.  I went through those words of wisdom which energised me when I felt mentally down. I have picked up some excerpts  from this book which  I am sure will become useful to many of us.

I quote – A doctor says “  Our body is really the product of our thoughts. We are beginning to understand in medical science the degree to which the nature of thoughts and emotions actually determine the physical substance and function of our bodies”

– “Happier thoughts lead to essentially happier biochemistry, a happier healthier body.”

-” Remove physiological stress from the body and the body does what it was designed to do. It heals itself.”

-“Negative thoughts and stress have been shown to seriously degrade the body and functioning of the brain, because it is our thoughts and emotions that are continuously reassembling, recreating our body. Start thinking happy thoughts and start being happy. You have your finger on the “feeling happy button” press it now and keep your fingers pressed down on it firmly. That is the law of attraction.”

-” Whatever is going on in your mind, you are attracting them to you.”

-” Here’s another problem. Most people are thinking of what they don’t want and they are wondering why it shows up over and over again. The only reason why people have what they don’t want is because they are thinking more about what they don’t want than what they do want.

-” Suppose we say ‘ I don’t want to catch the flu, the law of attraction doesn’t compute “Don’t” or” Not” or “No” or any other words of negation.” Thus we may get the flu.

-” You attract to you the predominant thoughts that you are holding in your awareness whether those thoughts are conscious or unconscious. That is the SECRET.”

-” Do you want to believe and know that your life experiences is in your hand and that only good things can come into your life because that is the way you think? You have a choice and whatever you choose to think will become your life experiences.”

-” Now if this is your first time to hear this, it may feel like” Oh! I have to monitor my thoughts? This is going to be a lot of work.” It will seem like this at first. But that’s where the fun begins.”

-” The flip side is that you have good emotions and good feelings. You know when they come, because they make you feel good. Excitement, joy, gratitude, love- imagine if we could feel that every day. When you celebrate the good feelings, you’ll draw to you more good feelings and things that make you feel good. Your thoughts and feelings create your life. When you are feeling down, did you know that you can change it in an instant? Put on a beautiful piece of music or start singing- that will change your emotions. Think of something beautiful. Think of a baby or someone you love and dwell on it. Keep those thoughts and block everything out but that thought. I guarantee you’ll start feeling good.

– “Expectation is a powerful attractive force. Expect the things you want and don’t expect the things you don’t want.”

-” Beliefs about aging are all in our minds. So release those thoughts from your consciousness. Focus on health and eternal youth.”

-” Be happy now. Enjoy life because life is phenomenal. It’s a magnificent trip!'”

“Laughter attracts health is something we can do within ourselves, despite what is happening on the outside. Laughter attracts joy ,releases negativity and leads to miraculous cures.

On a sad note, I want to dedicate this article to my niece,  Dr.Vidya Jaishankar who  passed away this year.  She was one who followed this law of attraction, spreading positivity around all the people. She was a successful marine scientist with a PhD in Zoology and worked as a Principal Scientist at Madras Marine Research Centre. Inspite of various respiratory and cardiac issues she suffered from childhood, she lived more than half a century with a positive attitude and a winning smile.

Now talking about myself, though I went through the ordeal with positivity, it was not a bed of roses. I had to face a lot of negativity around me.  It used to come in the form of discouraging words and also glances of sympathy especially towards my scanty scalp.   I used to laugh it off and say, “I am the luckiest person in this world to have been diagnosed so early and also to have my dear sister to literally pull me to the Anand Diagnostics for a health check despite the fact that I had no health issues.

Even though I try to empower myself with all these words, I don’t say that my future is all clear. But I try to take things as it comes and these words of wisdom helps me in facing any of them. That’s all we can all do. After all we are just puppets dancing to the tunes, played by The God Almighty.

  1. Oh Dear, very inspiring content. Do believe on positivity with some time negative thoughts. That is the part of life. Try to overcome those negativity with certain support of your nearer and dearer or with hefty carefree laugh. Suffering is part and parcel of our living, how it should be dealt with is utmost important. Thank you for such contribution through your blog.

    1. Subhash, your positivity and coolness, over powers your negativity. I like your attitude, your are dealing with your situation rather than fighting. Pain may be a fact, suffering is optional

  2. Heavy subject presented with not so heavy words…

Though the Book SECRET was filled with my own common beliefs, i found that heavier to read (when it was published) n now you are making it sound sensible…
    Lots of relevance…

( i was searching for some of your trademark humours)

  3. Great story. We need experiences to grow as a human. Good or bad take it as it comes but always with the right attitude. If we have the right attitude we can make wonders and with the wrong attitude end up failing or 6 feet under.

  4. Suffering, pain are part of our life. How to deal wit that situation is d most important part . Very touching write up.
