Bye, Chandan

A fine singer  leaves his voice behind to continue to entertain his fans. Another one is who leaves behind their humour to entertain us for ever.
On 25th of this month I get a shocking news of passing away of my dear dear friend and batch mate, Arup Roy, popularly known by his pet name, Chandan, at Bhubaneswar, leaving behind his humour for us to remember him.
I came out of the shock, when I spoke to my friends. Believe it or not we ended up talking about his humorous side and we found ourselves laughing.
He would call on my cell and talk about his troubles, ” vehicle is moving, back tyre has a puncture, at this age we are lucky at least 3 other tyres mein hawa  hein (air is there).
And he would describe his visit to the doctor, how two patients broke the que being more needy, making his condition worse, he asks the attendant how far is the mortuary because if this goes on, doctor will have to meet him for post mortem.
He never gives us a chance  to be concerned.
I spend more time with my friends on chat, where he is the one who calls ( can’t get over he has gone) regularly. Prema asked me  who was I talking to, only heard you laughing, hardly any dialogue from your side.  That was Chandan.
Never mind how miserable he felt in a situation, you will end up envying him after his narration and wish you were in that situation. Some people can describe hell beautifully and you will look forward to being there.
You are one of the reason that made my life worth living.
See ya soon, dear friend, we may have a lot of catch up to do.

bye

  2. Arup oraf, Chandan was a very sweet loveable and loving member of our REC/NIT 1973 batch. After he settled at Bhubaneswar, we always met on my annual visits. It was always fun to be with him, reminiscing about our college days and talking about our friends. Today I was choking when I spoke at his memorial. Shanti, his wife, is very friendly and sweet. I was relieved to see her being strong and reconciled. I will most definitely miss him dearly.

    RIP, my friend.

  3. Arup was my batch mate in Chemical Engineering. I knew him closely. He was a witty guy. After passing out from NITR we never met. But I always remembered Arup’s smiling face. During my visit to Bhubaneswar in 2023 I met quite a few of my batch mates in the get together but unfortunately did not meet him. He had to leave for Goa to be with his son.
He will be alive in our memories.
    RIP Arup.

  4. Rajan, when we spoke the other day, all we could do was laugh. Chandan was so full of life and he shared it with us in such a zany way. My condolences to Shanti and family. Thanks for this wonderful eulogy for Chandan, love you. Bal
